Full Description

Day 1: Johannesburg to the Kruger National Park This morning we depart from your hotel in Johannesburg between 06:30 and 07:00 and we begin to head for the Kruger National Park. On our travels we have the opportunity to stop and visit sights on the beautiful Panorama Route. The Panorama Route along the Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga is arguably one of the most beautiful and popular travel destinations in South Africa. It leads through the rugged mountain range of the northern Drakensberg. Here, in the northeastern part of the Great Escarpment, the inland plateau declines abruptly and steeply and opens up fantastic views of the plains of the Lowveld up to a thousand metres below, The most spectacular stretch is the Blyde River Canyon which is the 3rd largest canyon in the world and unlike the Fish River Canyon in Namibia and the Grand Canyon in America, it is filled with lush vegetation and wildlife. It’s also the largest forested and green canyon in the world. Just a few kilometers north of Graskop a short loop road leads to "God’s Window", from where you will enjoy a wonderful view of the Lowveld. The Canyon starts at "Bourke’s Luck Potholes" and ends at the "Three Rondawels". From many well-positioned vantage points one can view the 33 km long gorge. The Potholes are spectacular rock formations that were shaped eons ago by erosion. The bizarre swirl holes developed when the once rapid flowing Blyde and Treur rivers that confluence here carried masses of sand and debris with them. We will stop for lunch at the famous Harries Pancakes (Included) during our exploration of the Panorama Route before we continue to the Kruger. Upon arrival to the park via the Paul Kruger gate we enter into the reserve and make our way to our campsite. Keep your eyes open en route to camp, We are in Big 5 territory and sightings can happen at any moment! Arriving in the late afternoon we set up camp, light the fire and relax, enjoying the African sunset and a few sundowners, exploring the restcamp and even walking along the fence border. Dinner follows – A traditional South African braai (Included) before we settle in for the night.

Day 2: Kruger National Park This morning we recieve an early wake up call from our guide and we enjoy tea and coffee before we jump in the vehicle and make our way out of the camp gate and into the Kruger. We head off following one of Kruger’s best drives - The Timbavati River for almost 50km through a diverse mix of thornveld and mixed woodland into mopaneveld over a series of different geological zones – granites, gabbro, ecca shales and basalt we head towards the Timbavati Picnic Spot. The name Timbavati is derived from the Shangaan for “brackish water”, yet this tributary of the Olifants River is a reliable water source for game in the central region of the Kruger. Arriving at Timbavati we cook up a delicious full English breakfast before we depart back into the park and head back to camp. We arrive back at our campsite just in time for lunch. You then have a few hours to rest up, relax around the pool and enjoy the camp before we depart once again into the Kruger in search of more game that call the reserve home. We arrive at camp in the late afternoon and enjoy an early dinner before meeting at the main area of camp in order to depart on a night drive in the hopes of viewing the nocturnal game that are more active at night. The night drive departs 2 hours after the gates close, generally around 20h00 and you return back to camp after your drive around 22h00 and settle in for the night.

Day 3: Today we are collected from camp in an open safari vehicle and together with our knowledgeable guides we head into the Kruger to experience the bush from a different vantage point. Experiencing game viewing through the open air vehicle is fantastic and allows for incredible photography. Lunch is enjoyed at one of the local picnic spots in the bush and after spending the entire day exploring the area in the open vehicle before we head back to camp where a delicious dinner is prepared for you under the stars.

Day 4: Our time in Kruger is not quite over yet - This morning we are woken early by our guide to the smell of coffee before we meet up with our group and head off into the bush on foot. Exploring the Kruger together with 2 armend rangers is a once in a lifetime experience - During your time on foot you have the chance to focus in on the smaller game as well as spoor identification, tracking and birdlife. We return to camp for brunch, following which we will have one last game drive on our way to the gate! And then unfortunately, we have to head back to Johannesburg or Pretoria.
